The coordinates are in a 2.5-tier city in the Pearl River Delta, Guangdong. It’s a coincidence that I just went to the injection mold factory today and saw this problem, so I want to talk a few words. Due to work needs, I often deal with mold factories, and also communicate with some mold designers and mold project engineers. In addition, I have worked on molds for a few months before, and I will talk about my personal experience for your reference.
1. What is the prospect of the mold industry?
In my opinion, molds are still the basis of manufacturing. All mass-produced plastic products, metal products, etc. cannot be separated from molds. There are still no possible substitutes for molds, even for a long time in the future. It cannot be replaced, so mold-related work will not be eliminated.
2. Is the mold work hard?
To be honest, in the eyes of many people, the mold industry is absolutely hard-pressed, with greasy work clothes, noisy machine noises, messy working environment, and even working overtime. Therefore, in the eyes of many young people , Is very unbearable. But because of this, can we deny it? I think of course not, please look down.
3. What are the general jobs in the mold industry?
In the mold industry or a mold factory, there are actually many divisions of labor. Different positions have different characteristics. They can be roughly divided into several types, such as fitter, machining (CNC, EDM, wire cutting, and various General machine tool operators), mold polishers, mold designers, mold project engineers, etc.
4. What are the job characteristics of the mold industry?
Fitter: Fitter is one of the types of work with the largest number of personnel in the mold factory. According to the skill level, it is generally divided into apprentice, supplementary, and master. They have a distinctive feature in the eyes of outsiders, that is, "dirty", "tired", "Bitterness" is very dirty, tired and bitter because of dealing with a pile of copper and iron all day long. Of course, this is just the opinion of outsiders. In fact, as long as they can bear hardships and stand hard work, some senior mold masters are also very popular. The monthly salary is not a problem.
Machining: Machining also occupies a lot of people. This work is relatively less dirty and tiring, because after all, it is mainly CNC machining, such as machining centers, CNC milling machines, electric discharge machines, wire cutting, etc. are all digital processing , But some ordinary grinders, drilling machines, etc. will be relatively bitter. In machining, in the eyes of outsiders, machining centers and CNC milling machines are relatively better.
Mold polisher: Generally, it is a job that recruits some girls. Although the job is a bit tiring, it is said that some experienced polishers earn good income and are also a technical job.
Mold designer: This job is the core technical staff of the mold factory. In addition to the technical content, the working environment is relatively good, because usually the design is mainly in the office, and there is no messy and poor environment in the workshop. It is said that the education is The requirements are not high (many are graduates from technical secondary schools and colleges), and the income is relatively high in the mold industry, which is a good position.
Mold project engineer: This job is also the core position of the mold factory. It is a position that needs to understand both technology and project management. It is also the person who communicates and coordinates with the mold factory/or the mold department. It is responsible for mold development progress and technical problem tracking. And so on important roles, the usual work is mainly communication and coordination, project progress follow-up, technical follow-up mainly, is a position that mold technicians are more yearning for.
5. Where are the high-paying jobs in the mold industry?
It is understood that the salary for positions such as mold designer, mold project management, etc. is still good. Many people get a monthly salary of over 10,000, and many mold factories have project bonuses. Although the work is a bit tiring, many senior The mold designer and mold project management engineer of the company get a monthly salary of about 15,000 yuan, which is not bad in many people's eyes.
So, is there no future for the mold industry? No, although the overall look is a little dirty, tired, and bitter, the mold is still irreplaceable. In the eyes of many people, the mold industry is still very promising.
Which position is good? I think that if you don’t want a dirty, messy, and poor working environment, you can choose mold design; if you have strong hands-on ability and don’t want to sit in the office every day to get hemorrhoids, then fitter may be really suitable for you; if you are interested in programming and CNC technology, Then you can consider CNC processing; if you want to understand both technology and project management, you can consider mold project management engineers; if you can’t endure hardships, you have to be tall, you want to be beautiful, and you want more money and less work, then You can consider "go out and turn left"...
